A lot has been said, questioned and written about. Time after time, we find ourselves a subject of controversy and the victims of what I can say is a case of "mud slinging".
After issues were raised a few months back and sufficient answers were given, I thought people would understand and focus their energies to produce good work. Because that is the only way you move forward and no other way, even if that way is dragging down others so you think you would be on the same level.
Come on! Dubai Lynx continued to raise the bar this year and the work took several leaps in terms of quality. From 2007 to 2009, you can see a vast difference in the ideas we produced AS A REGION. So why not celebrate this moment of exceeding limits and surpassing our own benchmarks AS A REGION instead of pointing fingers?
For people who need clarifications, YES, all the work that we produced this year has been approved with prior client permission and released in the media. And yes, some creatives do think of the same idea around the world, and the evidence is in Lynx this year and a lot of other shows. The fact that someone posts it on the blog before the other doesn't mean the other has copied it, and I am sure we all know that.
All I can say is let us continue to surprise each other with jaw dropping work rather than shocking each other every morning with an "Oh, I know what you did last summer." What a waste of time and human talent. I can't fathom who benefits in what way by bringing up such unwanted gossip into our industry. Maybe, that's why the region has still to make a mark in the global advertising arena – only because for every single entity that tries to raise the bar, there are ten who try to bring it down. And I leave you with a final question for all those who pretend that their objective is to safeguard the awards outcome: Why is FP7 work always the ONLY one you are trying to put down? The very same questions and DOUBTS you are raising can be asked among a lot of other work and you know that very well!
