Grey Worldwide MENA has announced the opening of Villa Grey, a non-profit cultural activity center that will promote traditional and modern Egyptian art, culture and creativity. It is situated in Villa Hendawi in Dokki, which is also the site of Grey’s Cairo office.
Philippe Skaff, CEO of Grey Worldwide, says in a company statement, “This is a proud moment for me and for the many people who have helped make this project a reality. I look forward to welcoming established and new artists and everyone who appreciates art and culture. They are the heart of Villa Grey and it would be fantastic if we become a focal point for Egypt’s cultural community.”
“Over the last decade or so, we have witnessed a resurgence of interest in culture in major cities all over the world, and Cairo is no exception. The project builds on this interest, while promoting art and culture as important elements in Egyptian life,” says Gerard Avedissian, managing director of Grey Cairo.
Skaff hopes Villa Grey will encourage undiscovered talent, as well as showcase the work of known artists. “It is vital we become an inspiration to young artists, and give the chance for fashion and graphic designers, musicians, film makers and creative individuals of the future to take their first steps in expressing themselves through their art,” he says.
