Dubai-based ad agencies Impact BBDO, TBWA Raad, Fortune Promoseven and Tonic Communications were all winners at Sunday’s Loerie awards ceremony, held in Margate, South Africa.
The Loeries are regional awards open to entries from the Middle East and Africa, but are heavily dominated by South African entries – and winners. So all four agencies should be delighted with their achievements.
TBWA Raad picked up two bronze awards – one in TV and cinema for its “President” ad for Masterfoods’Twix, and the other in Outdoor and ambient for “Happy Tails” also for Masterfoods, but for Pedigree dog food.
Tonic picked up a TV and cinema bronze for “Ramadan Kareem” ad for fast-food chain Nando’s and Fortune Promoseven grabbed a Radio bronze for its Chiquita banana campaign in which an Hispanic-sounding man sings the word “Banana” over and over again to tunes such as “Smells like teen spirit” and “My way.”
The big winner, though, was Impact BBDO, which took home a Grand Prix for its “Don’t stop” TVC for another Masterfoods brand, Snickers, in which a bunch of green and red figures leap down from traffic lights and proceed to fight for dominance through an urban area. The green ones win, naturally. The official press release states that this is the first time since the Loeries shifted to Margate in 2005 that an agency from outside South Africa has won a Grand Prix.
